Orlando's O36 Video Race 2005

...And They're Off!

The Second Annual O36 Video Race was off to a blazing start on Saturday February 19th. Teams began arriving at the Downtown Media Arts Center starting line at 7:00 a.m. for the 9:00 a.m official start time. A major fire in Downtown Orlando didn't take away the excitement from the many teams that are competing in this year's race. Photos above were taken by digital photographer extrodinaire, Edouard Duroux, President of one of this year's sponsors, Jetstream Digital. Edouard is also an MCA-I board member and served on the O36 Video Race Committee.

Watch this space for further updates on the race and information on the Awards Ceremony to be held on Sunday, March 20, 2005 at Loews Cineplex at Universal CityWalk.

Orlando’s 36 Hour Video Race 2005 is hosted by the Orlando Chapter of the Media Communications Association-International and the Orlando Chapter of Women In Film and Television Florida. Registered teams will use the City of Orlando as their backdrop as they race against the clock to produce an original Video Short using their own equipment and the talents of the various team members. Each team will receive a kit at the beginning of the race which will include a prop, line of dialogue and genre to be used for the finished program.

MCA-I Orlando and WIFT Florida are currently seeking sponsors for Orlando’s 36 Hour Video Race 2005 to provide prize packages for the winning teams in each of the contest categories. For more information on sponsoring this event, contact Stephen Hayford at stephen289@aol.com or Susan Janis-Mashayekhi at susanJM1@aol.com.

Avid Certified User Program

The ACU program provides an efficient and effective process for self-assessment, self-improvement and self-promotion to all who excel or wish to excel as Avid system editors. Whether you are a seasoned post-production veteran or you just began working with Avid FreeDV, if you take full advantage of UI features and software functions then these significant skills should be recognized and rewarded. This program will ensure that you possess a high level of operational proficiency and that your well-deserved certification is communicated to those who need to know.

An Avid Certified User has the option to progress through two levels of certification:

Avid Certified Operator
This initial ACU level thoroughly covers and then expands upon the core operational functions of either the Media Composer or Avid Xpress Pro software. Simply pass the Avid Certified Operator exam for your preferred product line and receive official Avid certification.

Avid Certified Specialist

This more advanced ACU level brings an established Avid Certified Operator into the realm of a finely skilled Specialist. A participant must demonstrate a thorough understanding of graphic/matte creation and import as well as advanced visual effects construction.

The scope of the Avid Certified exams encompass topics found in all of the following Avid training courses:
